If you went to YouTube today, you might have noticed that the sidebar, which allows you to access things like your subscriptions feed, trending videos, and the “Library,” which houses your Watch Later list and video history, was missing (though you can access some of the pages by clicking on the links we’ve included). According to accounts from Twitter users, the site was down for a few hours on Tuesday.
Attempts to transmit videos to a smart TV or watch streaming from a game console were also blocked for some customers.
The account option was also broken, allowing you to switch accounts, modify settings, and watch your channel. Users could still watch videos from your homepage or search results, but those who like to carefully manage their YouTube experience, as well as producers who weren’t logged into the correct account, had a difficult time utilizing the site.
Although the number of user complaints appears to have decreased, YouTube has not given the all-clear. The firm issued a statement about 4:30 p.m. ET, stating that it is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. Users should be able to “log in, move between accounts, and use the account menu & navigation bar across all services (YouTube, YouTubeTV, YouTube Music, YouTube Studio) and devices,” the firm said at 7:50 p.m. ET. Issues casting to TVs or gaming consoles, using YouTube Studio tools, and “no internet connection” errors halting video playback were all cited in the company’s initial statement.
The YouTube app allowed users to access their subscriptions and Watch Later lists during the outage.
