Support for PHP 8 has been added to the JetBrains IntelliJ-based PhpStorm release

Support for PHP 8

This week, JetBrains published a new version of its PhpStorm web app development tool, which includes additional support for the recently released PHP 8.

PhpStorm 2020.3 is a popular PHP IDE that runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS. It’s based on the company’s IntelliJ IDEA IDE and is intended primarily for developers who wish to create PHP web apps. This release includes PHP 8 support for all language features, including open-source Custom Attributes.

Code refactoring, auto-completion, on-the-fly error prevention, zero-configuration debugging, and an extended HTML, CSS, and JavaScript editor are among its features. The program also incorporates all the capabilities of the newly launched WebStorm 2020.3, an IDE tailored for JavaScript, including support for TypeScript, Angular, React, and Vue.js languages with Databases/SQL support added on top.

PhpStorm 2020.3 supports live editing of front-end technologies such as CSS, HTML5, and JavaScript. I support the static analyzers PHPStan, Psalm, and Tailwind CSS. With this release, PhpStorm is now compatible with the Code With Me tool, allowing for collaborative development and pair programming within the PhpStorm IDE.

“At JetBrains, we always try to listen to our community and develop tools in the direction that solves the real issues of developers,” said Roman Pronskiy, product marketing manager in JetBrains’ PhpStorm group. “PhpStorm 2020.3, the [last] release of the year, fully reflects our position: we’ve implemented the majority of what our users have requested, with many other improvements on the way.”

In the PHP development space, PhpStorm competes with Zend Studio, NetBeans, and Cloud 9. Currently, JetBrains says that PhpStorm is used by over 600.000 enterprises, including Trivago, Yahoo, Visa, Wikipedia, Valve, Expedia, and Salesforce. According to the business, PhpStorm can natively handle Symfony, Laravel, Drupal, WordPress, Zend Framework, Magento, Joomla!, CakePHP, Yii, and many more popular technologies.

Throughout the third and fourth quarters, JetBrains has been releasing product updates at a rapid pace. IntelliJ IDEA, IntelliJ Scala Plugin, PyCharm, CLion, the EduTools Plugin, GoLand 2020.2, IntelliJ Rust, the Space Beta, and TeamCity are among the products available from the Prague-based developer of the Kotlin programming language. PhpStorm version 2020.2 was one of them.
