Google to Invest $1 Billion in Thailand for Cloud Infrastructure and Data Center

Alphabet Inc’s Google announced on Monday its plan to invest $1 billion in Thailand to establish a data center and cloud region. This investment aims to address the rising demand for cloud services and support the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in Southeast Asia. According to a Deloitte study, the project is expected to create an average of 14,000 jobs annually until 2029.

In May, Microsoft revealed plans to open its first regional data center in Thailand as part of its cloud service expansion.

Google stated that its cloud infrastructure, with a data center in Chonburi and a cloud region in Bangkok, will help meet the increasing demand for Google Cloud services and AI advancements. Popular services like Google Search, Maps, and Google Workspace will also benefit. The data center will be located in Chonburi’s industrial estate, while the cloud region in Bangkok will provide services to both public and private sector organizations.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra noted that Google’s investment aligns well with Thailand’s Cloud First Policy.
